All in the
Family

SPS has 51 locations throughout the West Coast and the Washington DC metro area. Due to our size, people find it surprising to find out that we’re a family-run business — from the top down. Our management team in Manteca may best represent the family aspect of our business. Penny and Melissa are a mother-daughter team with deep roots in Manteca and the family business of self storage.

Penny’s parents started as relief managers at the Manteca location before moving on to being onsite managers in Vacaville. They switched to a property in Sacramento before transferring back to our Manteca location. They were the onsite managers here for years and eventually, Melissa took a position as their relief manager. When Penny’s mom’s health started to fail and she passed away in 2004, Penny stepped in and took over her position working with her father. In 2006, her father passed away and Melissa and Penny became the onsite managers.

Penny and Melissa both grew up in Manteca and love having gotten to know so many people over the years. The town has grown immensely since Penny’s youth, but she loves being able to walk into a store and see someone she knows. It’s been fun for them to watch Manteca grow to become a busy, yet peaceful town.

Manteca
Agricultural
Celebrations

Here in Manteca, we haven’t lost sight of the roots which anchor this community. Founded as a farming community, we still have a vibrant agriculture community set amongst emerging high-tech, retail markets and distribution centers. Our signature crop is the pumpkin and if you’ve bought one of these future Jack-o-lanterns in California, there are good odds it came from Manteca.

The annual Manteca Pumpkin Fair takes place in October. It’s a local event brought to the community by the Sunrise Kiwanis group. Funds from this fun and family-friendly event support a variety of local charities and organizations. The fair features a car show, a Kid Zone with arts and crafts, games, rides and a playground. Feast on a large array of foods, try new brews in the beer garden and shop from different local vendors. Don’t forget about the pumpkin growing contest!

At the beginning of June, you can celebrate one of Manteca’s other agricultural crops — watermelons! The Manteca Crossroads Watermelon Street Days is one of the largest events in the region and is consistently voted one of the best events to attend in Northern California. This festival brings together the community in a massive celebration. Watermelon Street Days includes food, music, vendors and watermelon games and activities for all ages.
